Documentation
What this site is, how its versions are numbered, and what changed when.
The Site
The website of DataGoats, a data consulting firm in Sacramento. Services shows each service working on a sample business, the Gallery is a menu of ways to see your own data, and About says who we are. The Client Portal holds documents for clients with a code.
It is a Next.js application in plain CSS, with no design framework. Every chart is drawn by hand on one sample business; nothing on the site is a client’s data. There are no analytics and no third-party scripts: the privacy page covers what that means in practice.
Version Numbers
Every release below is numbered on the same scheme. Reading V2.1a from left to right:
- VVersion.
- 2Major. Only moves for a rebuild, or a change in what the site is.
- .A separator, not a decimal point.
- 1Minor. One up per release to the live site. It counts in base ten, so V2.1, V2.10 and V2.100 are three different versions.
- aLetter, from a. A small correction on top of a version already out.
One entry per release to the live site, not per change made. The log starts at V1.0a, when the site moved to its own address.
Latest Release
V2.2b
October 3, 2026The pitches named for their markets, and new versions of the documents.
- Client PortalEach pitch is named for its market: the Litigation Pitch and Plan, and a place held for the Dashboard Pitch and Plan. The plan by itself is now just Business Plan. The litigation pitch and the plan are replaced with their latest versions.

V25 releases · V2.0a to V2.2a
V2.21 release · V2.2a
V2.2aOctober 3, 2026A gallery you flip through, a new About page, and a way into the portal.
- ServicesPoint at a service in the menu and a cloud of points takes its shape: a chart, a slide, a forecast, a warehouse, a plan, a room. Forecasting is the new name for ML Forecasting.
- GalleryEach question is a row of views you flip through, so the page is shorter. Two new questions: What’s Likely?, with statistical models, and What’s Out There?, with data gathered from public websites. The ideas that were on About are views here now. The 3-D maps turn with buttons and swipe on a phone, and scrolling is smoother.
- AboutStraight to the point: what we do in one sentence, three promises, and the people.
- ContactPlainer words, and no sample text in the boxes.
- FooterClick the goat. Documentation sits with Privacy and Terms.
- DocumentationThis page: what the site is, how its versions are numbered, and every release.
- PhonesA bigger header with more room between its buttons.
- Client PortalA short animation on the way in, the time each document was updated, and the latest pitch and business plan.
V2.11 release · V2.1a
V2.1aOctober 2, 2026The Services page shows each service working.
- ServicesEach service on the page runs on a sample business: what you have today, and what we hand you. Pick your kind of business and every example uses its words. The dashboard folds a messy export into one view, the presentation turns a pile of documents into a sourced timeline, the forecast can be tested against what happened, and so on through training.
- Build Your EngagementAt the foot of Services: pick the services you need, see the order they would run in and what you would have at the end of each step, and send the list to us. It arrives written out in the contact form.
- HomeThe dashboard’s figures for each location now add up to the whole.
- Dark modeButtons stay readable when you point at them.

- ServicesAnalytics and Bespoke Presentations come first, Training last.

V2.0aOctober 1, 2026The site rebuilt for a working firm.
- HomeA plain opening with a cube of records you can sort by source, person, topic or year, three interactive examples of what you get, and how we work, step by step.
- GalleryA walk-through of ways to see your own data across five kinds of business, with maps, 3-D views and data science, and a list of the views you pick that you can send to us. Nothing on the page changes size when you switch.
- About and ContactWho we are, plainly. No phone number, email address or street address anywhere: the contact form is the way to reach us.
